Your bathroom vanity is a centerpiece to your entire layout. So, when you are initially imagining what your completed bathroom renovation will look like, it should be at the top of your list of considerations when deciding what to choose.

For instance, does your bathroom have one sink or two sinks? Is it a single bathroom for one person? How much cabinet space are you going to need? Will you be the only one storing things there? Or, is there an entire family that will have all types of items from jewelry to make up to shirts to towels inside of all of those mini-drawers and cabinets?

These are just a few questions you should ask yourself when deciding on things like vanity tops or whether you want modern bathroom vanities, because the decision you make now is one that you’ll be living with for a long time.

While we’re talking about what size and shape your vanity will be, you have to consider what the overall dimensions of it will be as well. What our Professional Bathroom Contractors at Memphis Bathroom Remodel like to tell homeowners who are getting a bath remodel in Memphis TN, is that they shouldn’t just look at the size of the cabinet, but also how far out the doors and drawers open.

Vanity

For example, imagine a bathroom with a large layout that has a small vanity sink with cabinets under it, and it sits on the right side of the space. On the left side of the space on the opposite wall, right across from the vanity sink, there’s a huge cabinet with no sink. It’s just a huge cabinet with huge doors that swing open wide and take up the middle of the space.

Even though that bathroom is large, the way the doors swing open on that huge cabinet is going to make it seem cramped in there. That being said, if someone is washing their hands in the sink, or fixing their hair in the mirror, and another person is in there at the same time trying to store towels in the huge cabinet in one of the top sections, the person at the sink may have to duck so the high doors of upper unit of the cabinet don’t pop him or her in the head!

Another thing to consider when deciding which vanity that you want your bathroom remodeling contractors to install are the type of materials that your bath vanity is made of. The wettest, dampest place in the entire house, condo, or apartment is almost always the bathroom (unless you have a basement with some leakage issues but that’s another story!) So it’s imperative that you choose your materials very carefully, because you’re going to be using this newly installed vanity well into the future.

When choosing things like vanity tops, granite, marble, quartz, and solid tops are all great, among others. You want to have something that is durable as well as attractive. If your vanity is made of wood, and it’s going to be subject to lots of splashes, then you need to make sure that it’s sealed properly, which our very seasoned contractors from Memphis Bathroom Remodel will most definitely help you with.

When it comes to your bath vanity cabinets, you have to decide what’s going to be the best mounting system. Do you want one that’s wall mounted, or one that stands free? Most people prefer the traditional route, and have one that is in contact with the floor. This is mainly because when the vanity is freestanding there’s no weight limit involved. Therefore, you would then have the option of getting a larger storage bath vanity, if that’s what you need.

Remember, you have to keep in mind the entire layout, and how much walking space that you’re going to have within the bathroom area itself. It’s okay to want extra space to store things, but you don’t want to stump your toe on a cabinet that’s too big for the space every time you get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom!

That being said, there are lots of different types of bath vanities in all kinds of forms. When talking about sinks, for example, some people like the pedestal look that stands free. But, the thing is, it doesn’t have any storage features to it. Still, if a homeowner has other extra space in the bathroom to put cabinets in another spot, then the sink’s luxury look is a good trade-off, because it doesn’t need to have cabinets.

Then, there are of course the wall-mounted vanities, which are also referred to as “floating” vanities that don’t have any storage cabinets under them at all, just air. The thing about these is that you need to do a lot of planning up front if it’s the type that you desire, because you don’t want to do something like trying to add cabinets after the fact, and have your beautiful layout altered in tacky fashion because of a future spontaneous need for extra space in the bathroom.

In that kind of situation, what you needed (instead of the floating vanity) was the under-mounted style, and they are just as beautiful as many other styles. If you want to get an entire vanity cabinet, where there are drawers on the sides, under, above and around the sink or sinks, it means that you know for a fact that you’re going to have a lot of things to store, and this one in itself would be better for a large family situation.

Vessel vanities are also very lovely and unique. These bath vanities are the ones that have a bowl rising up out of the sink, and look like they should be in a resort or a hotel. But, they are instead inside of your beautifully renovated bathroom. All in all, if you always assess your living situation beforehand, you’ll end up with a bathroom vanity that you’ll be happy with for a very long time.
